STRONGER TOGETHER: PERFORMING ARTS & TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT

International cross-sector meeting

Zagreb, Croatia – June 01 – 03, 2022

Cross-sectoral cooperation and networking as leverage to strengthen contemporary dance and circus

Decentralisation and audience development, performing arts across communities and public spaces

Contemporary circus and dance companies are present in most of South-Eastern European countries. They are very active at European level and multiply interconnections across borders – thanks to European projects as well as festivals and inter-operators, networks and platforms like Circostrada, EDM, IETM or Teatroskop. Such international cooperation and networking allow them to share resources and build up together through knowledge and capacities transfer, coproductions and common artistic tours, to enable mutual awareness and to increase the level of professionalisation.

Both sectors have also in common to often develop innovative artistic forms through hybridation, to explore unusual spaces in town, in the nature or in heritage buildings, enabling a broader audience to experience in the same movement a new esthetics and a vivid relationship with the scenery. Contemporary circus and dance have been also carrying out for decades a specific attention towards audience awareness, offering outreach activities, committing themselves in education and for some artists, involving local communities and amateurs in their creations.

Despite their high potential, both sectors have also in common to face similar fragilities: they operate with scarce resources and lack of venues, they hardly access theatre stages… If their institutional recognition is now underway in many countries in the South-Eastern Europe region, there is still a lot of room for improvement to allow them to express their full potential and combine their own development with their contribution to the community.

The purpose of this meeting is to highlight the incredible creativity, resilience and potential of these sectors, but also explore together, by sharing good practices and experiences between European countries, how to improve the development of circus and dance sectors at international level, to encourage mutual insemination and to increase their level of inclusion in social and cultural policies

Jači zajedno : izvedbene umjetnosti i razvoj teritorija

2. i 3. lipnja, Francuski institut, Preradovićeva 5

  • Decentralizacija i razvoj publike, izvedbene umjetnosti u zajednicama i javnim

Suvremeni cirkus i ples također desetljećima posebnu pozornost pridaju podizanju svijesti javnosti, nudeći lokalne aktivnosti, uključujući se u obrazovanje, a neki umjetnici uključuju lokalne zajednice i amatere u svoje kreacije.
